Gondwana Choirs is proud to announce that our founder and Artistic Director Lyn Williams AM has been nominated for NSW Australian of the Year.

For more than three decades, Lyn has made significant contributions to musical performance and development in Australia. Her work has shaped the course of thousands of lives across the country and abroad, with numerous former choristers becoming performing artists and composers. From commissioning the work of contemporary local composers to working directly with traditional owners, Lyn understands that sharing stories and singing together is a profound and important experience.

Since the start of the pandemic, Lyn has led Gondwana Choirs through its challenges with her characteristic sharp focus, steady hand and passion. She’s continued Gondwana’s inspiring ensemble work, giving young people access to the choral community both remotely and in person. In doing so, she’s provided a lifeline to hundreds of young people who come together to connect, learn and thrive through song, as well as to the families and communities they are part of.

Lyn joins a group of 15 extraordinary nominees from New South Wales. Four of them will be announced as awardees in a ceremony on the evening of Monday 15 November 2021 at Luna Park, Sydney, which will also be available to watch online via livestream. They will then join the other state and territory recipients as finalists for the national awards announcement on 25 January 2022.

Warmest congratulations to Lyn from the extended Gondwana family!
