The Art of A Cappella celebrates the unique sound of the young tenor and bass voice. Hosted by the SCC Young Men’s Choir, directed by Sam Allchurch, this weekend festival brings together guest artist, Timothy Wayne-Wright (King’s Singers), exciting new quartet False Relations and a specially formed choir of tenors and basses from across Sydney and further afield.

After ten years in The King’s Singers, countertenor Tim Wayne-Wright examines and explains what it truly means to be an ensemble singer. During these workshop sessions, Tim will cover the main issues and hurdles that every choir faces – from vowel matching and achieving a good blend, to tips on how to truly engage and communicate with your audience through the power of vocal colours. All of the key elements of accomplished ensemble singing will be explained and explored.

Hosted by the Young Men’s Choir, this two-day workshop is open to any secondary school-aged tenors and basses. It is possible to sign up as a whole choir, a small group or an individual.

Come along and be part of this fascinating journey through the world of a cappella ensemble singing! The weekend will conclude with a concert for friends and family.

Cost: $80 (includes all tuition, supervision, sheet music, 2 tickets to concert). Bring your own lunch and snacks.

Teachers who are prepared to assist with supervision can attend without charge.

Wear: Casual clothes on Saturday, blacks performance wear (t-shirts fine) for Sunday.
