Gondwana Indigenous Children’s Choir

Based in Cairns, Queensland, Gondwana Indigenous Children’s Choir is the most exciting and well-recognised group of young Indigenous performers in the country. The rich, vibrant sound of the choir warms the hearts of audiences whenever it performs.

The choir regularly collaborates the Australian Chamber Orchestra and with Indigenous artists including Archie Roach, Jessica Mauboy, Lou Bennett, Uncle Seaman Dan, Dr G, Christine Anu, Troy Cassar-Daley, Briggs and Emma Donovan. They have performed at G20 Summit, the Cairns NAIDOC Gala Ball and multiple times at the Sydney Opera House.

In 2017, GICC undertook its first European tour, introducing audiences to music in multiple Indigenous languages and the exciting arrangements of traditional songs and dances from the Torres Strait. This tour also included the start of the major collaboration with the Vienna Boys’ Choir and the Sydney Children’s Choir in Songs of My Country.

Since its inception in 2009, Gondwana Indigenous Children’s Choir has performed and toured locally and internationally at many high-profile events.

The choir is loved for their rich sound and performances of songs in Indigenous languages and for their colourful presentations of traditional songs and dances from the Torres Strait Islands.

Notable featured performances have included:

    1. Minerals Council Dinner of Australia (2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015)
    2. Red Earth Arts Festival, Roebourne WA (2016)
    3. NAIDOC Ball, Cairns (2017)

The choir enjoys an ongoing collaboration with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and has performed with many significant Indigenous artists including Archie Roach, Jessica Mauboy, Lou Bennett, Uncle Seaman Dan, Dr G Yunupingu, Christine Anu, Troy Cassar-Daley, Briggs and Emma Donovan.

They have performed at the G20 Finance Leaders Summit, the National NAIDOC Week Gala Ball and multiple times at the Sydney Opera House.

In 2017, GICC undertook its first European tour to Germany, Slovenia and Austria, introducing audiences to music in  Indigenous languages and traditional songs and dances from the Torres Strait. In Vienna, GICC collaborated with the renowned Vienna Boys’ Choir in workshops and performances.

Following the tour, in October 2017 GICC continued their collaboration with the Vienna Boys’ Choir in performances with the Sydney Children’s Choir in Songs of My Country at the Sydney Opera House and Cairns Convention Centre.
